Dedicated to the memory of Peter Allen

This site is a tribute to Peter Allen. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

Peter joined the 263 Air Training Corp Squadron whilst still at school (circa 1941) and in late 1942 he volunteered to join the Royal Air Force (RAF) and was accepted for training as a Navigator – unfortunately his legs were too short to be a pilot which was what he really wanted to be.

On completing basic training he was posted to East London in South Africa where he completed his basic training as a Navigator whereupon he was made up to Sergeant.

On his return to England he was stationed to Halfpenny Green  for advanced training on Avro Ansons. From there he went to Silverstone where he trained on Wellingtons . He was then stationed at Winthorpe to carry out heavy bomber conversion on Lancasters.

He completed specialist training for Troop drops and glider towing. From there he was posted to India - by Dakota which took three days!

Prior to demobilisation he was transfered to 355 Maintenance Unit at Salawas, near Jaipur and then returned to England by boat - Empress of Scotland. This concluded his RAF career, a time of his life of which he justifiably proud and enjoyed immensely.
